When a person is out in public or if they are faced with a social situation or a specific task they may begin to get nervous of panicky. They may have a feeling of anxiety. Anxiety disorder is a real condition but there are many different types of anxiety. Anxiety disorder signs and symptoms will vary based on the type of anxiety that a person has. A person should not have to go about their life suffering.

Anxiety Symptoms & Signs

There are many types of anxiety but some disorders are more common than others. Common types of anxiety disorders include:

  • Acute stress disorder
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Phobias

While each disorder has its own signs and symptoms there are some common signs that a person will be aware of to tell them that they are suffering from some form of anxiety.

To determine what types of anxiety a person is suffering from they can take a seven minute tests online. In addition to the results of this test a person should visit their doctor for an official diagnose and to seek treatment.

Common signs

There are some common signs of anxiety that a person should be aware of. While not everyone will experience all of these symptoms and may suffer from them to a different degree they are common and may tell a person it is time to seek out treatment. There are two main categories of anxiety symptoms. They are the emotional symptoms and physical symptoms.

Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

Some of the physical symptoms that a person feels from anxiety can be similar to other health problems. Anxiety can cause pain in the chest. This pain can be so bad that a person may think they are having heart issues. A checkup by a medical doctor can determine if the problem a person is facing is indeed anxiety and not a deadly heath issues.

Anxiety can turn mild symptoms into something that a person may think is more serious. For example if a person has a slight feeling of dizziness , it may feel more intense like they have vertigo. In fact it may be nothing morn then being hungry and the body reacting to this. Since the symptoms will feel worse to a person they may think that there is something wrong which can lead to even more anxiety.
There are some common symptoms a person may be feeling if they are suffering from anxiety. There are both physical and emotional symptoms that can be a sign of anxiety.

The emotional symptoms include:

  • A feeling of fear that will not go away
  • A feeling of dread without justification
  • Problems concentrating
  • Nervousness
  • Thinking of the worse case situations
  • Irritability
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Increase attention to danger
  • Feelings of being absentminded
  • A sudden fear of panic
  • Feeling of losing control
  • A detached feeling from reality

There are some physical symptoms of anxiety as well. These physical symptoms include:

  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Excessive sweating
  • A sensation of choking
  • Stomach camps
  • A feeling of vertigo
  • Diarrhoea
  • Feeling out of breath
  • Hyperventilation
  • Chills or sudden hot flashes
  • Feeling of being lightheaded
  • Twitching
  • Tension in the muscles
  • Headaches
  • Feeling of fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea

A person does not have to have all of the symptoms to be suffering from depression. They can have emotional symptoms without any of the physical symptoms of just a few of the physical symptoms.

A person can also have some of the physical symptoms without any of the emotional symptoms. In many cases if a person is suffering from anxiety they will have some of the physical as well as the emotional symptoms. Each type of anxiety has its own symptoms.

Panic Disorder without Agorphobia

People with this condition have sudden panic attacks. They may be in fear of having a heart attack and losing control.

Panic Disorder with Agorphobia

People with this disorder are afraid of leaving their home and being around people. They may be in fear all the time.

Agoraphobia without Panic Disorder

People with this condition may have experienced some form of traumatic event or social fears. They may be in fear of leaving their home even to go outdoors.

Specific Phobia

People often have irrational fears called phobias. They may fear animals, something in nature, physical danger, specific situations, and other things. They may alter behavior without a just reason.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

These are behaviors that a person cannot stop. For example a person may have to rearrange items on a desk to be in a certain order or they cannot relax. They may need to do a task a certain number of times.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

This is a result of a traumatic event and a person relieves the event in their mind over and over. A person can also have flashbacks of this event. It may affect their emotions and a person can live in fear due to this.

Acute Stress Disorder

This is similar to PTDS but may be short term. With this condition a person may be emotionally numb and have feelings of depression.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

This condition is when a person has anxiety but there is no known cause to the anxiety. Symptoms of this condition can affect daily life.

Anxiety due to Medical Condition

There are some medical conditions and illnesses that can cause symptoms of anxiety. For example lyme disease or a thyroid condition may lead to anxiety.

Substance Induced Anxiety

Some drugs as well as prescription medications can cause some of the conditions of anxiety disorder. They may happen when a person is under the influence or if they are going through withdraws.

Anxiety Disorder NOS

This condition happens when a person experiences anxiety without a direct cause. There is no specific diagnosis for the symptoms that they are feeling.

How to Get Help

If a person is suffering from any of the symptoms from anxiety disorder they should see their doctor or meet with a psychologist. A psychologist can diagnose a person with anxiety and they can recommend proper treatment for this condition.
